The president of the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry, Colima Delegation, Juan José Meza Núñez, denounced the failure to comply with the urgent measures that should have been taken to reduce heavy traffic and road congestion caused by the expansion works on the Colima–Tecomán highway, near La Salada.
It should be remembered that two weeks ago, the Business Council held a meeting and reached agreements with the Government of the State of Colima, the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), the National Guard, and Pinfra.
Meza Núñez toured the highway construction works and found sections with very poor visibility, uneven surfaces, changes in traffic circulation, and points where vehicles and heavy transportation must perform maneuvers that unnecessarily increase the risk.
“The reality we found today is concerning. Major infrastructure projects are necessary, but none can move forward by putting the safety of those who travel on this highway every day in second place,” he stated.
He added that representing a sector does not simply mean attending meetings, taking a photograph, or carrying out a procedure; it means returning, reviewing, demanding that agreements be fulfilled, and publicly pointing out when something represents a risk.
He also stated that there is no need to wait for an accident to occur before correcting the problems that are already visible.
“A light, proper signage, or better delimitation may seem like minor details, until someone’s safe arrival home depends on them.”
Meza Núñez further stated that he will continue with efforts, dialogue, and the building of agreements.
“But we will also continue touring the area, monitoring, and pointing out anything that needs to be corrected.”
