The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) informs the public that preliminary work has begun for the construction of the “Arco Norte” Vehicular Overpass. This project will substantially improve mobility at the intersection with Venustiano Carranza Avenue in the Colima-Villa de Álvarez metropolitan area, Colima.

This project will address one of the intersections with the highest vehicle load in the state. With a total length of 600 meters, it is designed to facilitate the daily commute of more than 316,000 residents, reduce travel times, and make traffic between the northern and eastern neighborhoods of the metropolitan area more efficient and safe.

The design includes six center lanes—three in each direction—and four side lanes that will allow for quick returns and access to local streets.

The structure will have ten long-span spans, seven measuring 31 meters and three measuring 25 meters, as well as wide access points measuring 140 meters in the eastern end and 160 meters in the western end, which will improve connectivity between the municipalities of Colima and Villa de Álvarez.

Among the most important benefits is access to essential services, such as the Regional Hospital, which is key in emergency situations and medical care. Furthermore, eliminating current traffic jams increases road safety for all users, including pedestrians and cyclists.

During June, the site will be prepared and construction areas will be cleared. This includes the installation of warning signs to guide drivers, as well as the relocation of infrastructure such as power lines, fiber optic cables, 36-inch and 16-inch water mains, and 24-inch sanitary sewers. Median strips will also be adapted to create new temporary traffic lanes.

The SICT, headed by Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, reiterates its commitment to road safety and has installed informational banners in the area and one kilometer before the access point.

In addition, daytime and nighttime signage is in place in accordance with NOM-086-SCT2-2023, ensuring orderly traffic while the work is underway.

This project is progressing as planned and is currently in the interference clearance phase.

The SICT urges drivers to drive with caution and appreciates their understanding of any temporary inconvenience this project may cause. Once completed, it will have a positive impact on the quality of life of the residents of Colima.
