Mexico’s Peso Surges to its Strongest Level Since 2015

High local interest rates, record remittances, and nearshoring prospects have boosted demand for pesos.

The peso was changing hands Thursday at 16.90 to the U.S. dollar, a level not seen since December 2015.

The Mexican peso is on a roll, reaching its strongest level since 2015 and becoming the best performer among major currencies in the past year, boosted by high local interest rates, rising exports, and record remittances.
