16,000 kilos of Benzyl Chloride seized by authorities in Manzanillo, Colima

Benzyl chloride is used as a chemical intermediate in the production of illegal drugs. It is also a carcinogen and mutagen that can severely irritate and burn the skin and eyes with possible eye damage; exposures may cause a life-threatening build-up of fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema).

16,000 kilos of Benzyl Chloride were seized at the Port of Manzanillo, Colima.

According to the Secretary of the Navy, the seizure was made on June 28th, inside port facilities.

A total of 16,760 kilos of the chemical used to produce various narcotics was seized in this port of the state of Colima by the National Customs Agency.

In a statement, the agency reported finding the chemical, which they say, is a chemical precursor, a substance considered essential for the production of Methamphetamine and N-Metalcathinone, and is one used by organized crime groups.
